A 120 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project under development in Klerksdorp has passed a major construction milestone, with more than 81,000 solar panels now installed on-site.

The project, awarded under Bid Window 6 of South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPP), represents a total investment of USD 120 million. It is being developed by AMEA Power, the majority shareholder, in partnership with Ziyanda Energy and Dzimuzwo Energy, both wholly owned by African women.

Financing is being secured through Standard Bank South Africa, which is providing debt funding, while the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) will contribute equity funding to support the local partners’ participation.

Once operational, the facility is expected to significantly contribute to South Africa’s clean energy transition and boost women-led participation in the renewable energy sector.
