Residents in 42 central and southern Illinois communities are receiving support to transition to cleaner, more affordable transportation.”We’re proud to partner with the State of Illinois and communities throughout central and southern Illinois to deliver transportation electrification plans that will help these communities advance their electrification goals and priorities,” said Chairman and President of Ameren Illinois Lenny Singh. “At Ameren Illinois, we’re committed to providing the tools and resources communities need to make electrification achievable and impactful. We’re excited to see these communities take the next steps in creating lasting benefits for residents and businesses alike.”

Through the Community Engagement & Consultation (CEC) Program, backed by Illinois’ Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA), communities are getting technical help to create transportation electrification plans.

Ameren Illinois and the State of Illinois are awarding $675,000 to 23 equity-eligible communities to help fund electric transportation projects. These include installing charging stations and buying electric fleet vehicles.

The CEC Program is part of Ameren Illinois’ Beneficial Electrification Plan, which outlines how the company will support electric vehicle adoption and help meet the state’s carbon reduction and economic development goals.

Communities receiving funding for implementation:
Aledo, Belleville, Carbondale, Carlinville, Champaign, Danville, Decatur, East St. Louis, Effingham, Harrisburg, Jacksonville, Jerseyville, La Salle, Macomb, Marion, Mattoon, Mt. Vernon, Ottawa, Peoria, Sauget, Tilton, Urbana, Vandalia.

Communities receiving consultation support:
Colfax, Downs, Edwardsville, Forsyth, Galva, Glen Carbon, Henry, Le Roy, Marseilles, Mt. Zion, New Baden, Paxton, Pinckneyville, Pittsfield, Sesser, Staunton, Taylorville, Teutopolis, Troy.

Each community receives a free, customized electrification plan. This includes a local profile, analysis of environmental opportunities, and an EV Readiness Guide with steps for building infrastructure and securing funding.

Benefits of these plans include:

  • Cleaner air and improved public health
  • Lower fuel and maintenance costs
  • Economic growth and job creation
  • Alignment with state climate goals
  • Stronger community resilience
