TOYO Powers Up 2GW Solar Cell Production In Ethiopia

TOYO Co., Ltd, a solar solutions provider, has commenced production at its new manufacturing facility in Ethiopia as of early April 2025. The company has announced plans to deliver over 80 megawatts (MW) of solar cells to its customers by the end of April. Following the initial deliveries, TOYO intends to gradually scale up its operations to meet increasing market demand. The new Ethiopian plant is expected to become fully operational by May and June 2025, with a projected monthly production capacity ranging from 150 to 200 MW.

In response to strong external customer interest and the growing internal requirements of its newly established module facility in Houston, Texas, TOYO has decided to expand the nameplate capacity of the Ethiopian site to 4 gigawatts (GW). This expansion is in line with TOYO’s broader strategic objective of enhancing its global manufacturing capabilities to support the rising demand for renewable energy solutions.

Junsei Ryu, Chairman and CEO of TOYO Co., Ltd., said in a statement, “We are very positive about the strong demand we are seeing in the market and are working diligently to execute the additional 2GW expansion in Ethiopia. 2025 is shaping up to be a year of massive growth for TOYO fueled by solar power’s ability to rapidly add low-cost power to the grid and our commitment to sustainable energy solutions on a global scale.”

Establishing a presence in Ethiopia represents a key step in the company’s effort to diversify its manufacturing footprint and leverage regional advantages, such as local workforce availability and favorable production conditions. Through this move, TOYO aims to contribute to global sustainable energy development and ensure a more resilient supply chain for its solar technologies.
