Singapore and France to develop biomethane supply chain for shipping

France and Singapore will jointly develop a biomethane supply chain and certification framework through a pilot project to be conducted after a collaboration agreement was signed by Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) and France’s Directorate General for Maritime Affairs, Fisheries and Aquaculture.

In a statement published on 30 May, the MPA revealed that the project, a biomethane bunkering trial in Singapore, will be developed with shipping company CMA CGM.

According to the MPA, the partnership is part of a commitment from both sides to advance sustainable shipping. This involves strengthening cooperation not only in green shipping and maritime safety but also port digitisation.

The digitisation aspect will see MPA joining forces with Haropa Port and the Port of Marseille-Fos to advance port call optimisation and maritime digitisation. This includes trials with CMA CGM on ship-to-shore data exchange to automate and streamline port clearance processes, reduce manual documentation, and improve the accuracy of operational data.
