LONGi Launches HIBC Cell Tech And 700W High-Efficiency Solar Module At SNEC 2025 In Major Tech Breakthrough

On June 11, at the 18th International Solar Photovoltaic Exhibition (SNEC) 2025, LONGi officially introduced its newly developed HIBC (Hybrid Interdigitated Back Contact) technology and announced the start of mass production of related solar modules. These new products mark a significant technological leap for the solar industry, as they achieve a power output of over 700 watts on a standard-size module measuring 2382mm by 1134mm. The modules also reach a production efficiency close to 26%, signaling the beginning of what LONGi refers to as the “25%+ Era” of photovoltaic module efficiency.

HIBC technology combines the strengths of HJT (heterojunction) and BC (back contact) technologies, incorporating a high- and low-temperature composite passivated back contact structure. This is the first time such technology has been produced at scale, setting new benchmarks for the solar industry. In April 2025, the Hamelin Solar Research Institute (ISFH) in Germany certified the conversion efficiency of HIBC solar cells at 27.81%, a new world record.

LONGi Chairman Zhong Baoshen emphasized at the press event that high conversion efficiency is central to the value and performance of photovoltaic products. He reiterated LONGi’s longstanding focus on improving energy yield within standard module sizes, rather than merely enlarging the panel area. According to Zhong, expanding panel size to boost output can lead to reliability and quality concerns, whereas improving unit efficiency offers greater value and durability.

The newly launched HIBC modules achieve a power density of 259 W/m², which LONGi notes is higher than other 700W modules currently on the market—many of which are physically larger (2384mm × 1303mm). This performance challenges the traditional notion that bigger panels always mean higher power. For the first time, LONGi has introduced “power density” as a formal metric in the solar industry, proposing it as a more accurate measure of module value, especially in settings where space is limited, such as rooftops or land-constrained installations.

These advancements also include the use of high-density packaging, increasing the cellular screen coverage from 93.2% to 95.1%, thereby maximizing light absorption. LONGi had previously launched the EcoLife series at the Intersolar exhibition in May 2025, a commercial product based on HIBC technology. That series features a mass-produced cell efficiency of 27.3% and a module efficiency exceeding 25%.

LONGi’s commitment to back contact (BC) technology has grown steadily since it first introduced its BC ecosystem in 2023. As of May 2025, the company had conducted technical integration with 191 global partners and formalized 55 collaborations across seven major sectors—including silicon wafers, solar cells, modules, system solutions, hydrogen energy, biomass, and engineering. These efforts have already generated revenue of approximately 1.95 billion yuan.

In addition to technical innovation, LONGi has been building a collaborative ecosystem to support the development of next-generation solar technologies. In 2023, the company launched the STAR innovation green collaboration platform, centered around its Global Zero-Carbon Technology Innovation Center. By mid-2024, LONGi introduced a formal framework for managing the BC ecosystem, including core values, cooperation principles, partner evaluation criteria, technical support systems, and value-sharing mechanisms.

Chairman Zhong concluded the launch by reaffirming LONGi’s long-term vision for the photovoltaic sector. He emphasized the importance of foundational work that supports the industry’s sustainable and healthy development. Moving forward, LONGi intends to deepen global partnerships and expand the reach of its BC technology to drive greater value across industries and everyday applications.
