RWE Secures Contracts for Advanced Agri-PV Projects in Italy

Agri-PV RWE 2024

RWE has successfully participated in Italy’s Resilience and Recovery Plan auction, securing a contract-for-difference tariff and up to a 40% return on investment for its advanced Agri-PV projects. The projects include the 9.8 MWac Morcone and 9.3 MWac Acquafredda plants, both located in Benevento province, Campania. Construction on the facilities, which will house over 32,500 solar modules, is set to begin in early 2025, with commissioning expected by the end of the same year.

Katja Wünschel, CEO RWE Renewables Europe & Australia: “I am thrilled that with Morcone and Acquafredda our world-first commercial advanced Agri-PV plants will be installed in Italy. As land is a scarce resource, we must use it responsibly and efficiently. Agrivoltaics is a sustainable symbiosis between agriculture and renewable energy bringing in two different yields from the same land. This innovative technology helps us paving the way towards a sustainable future.”

The Agri-PV systems will feature elevated tracker technology, with solar modules mounted on three-meter-high structures with movable axes to enhance energy yields. Beneath the panels, integrated agricultural activities will allow crop cultivation, improving land use efficiency. Additionally, the solar panels will offer protection against extreme weather conditions, including hail, frost, drought, and heavy rain.
