A trio of gas and engineering companies have announced plans to launch the first system in the city gas industry to manage and transfer certifications that prove the environmental value of e-methane.
The system is being developed by Osaka Gas and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries using the CO₂NNEX digital platform as part of the Nagaoka methanation demonstration project in Niigata Prefecture in Japan. The trial aims to advance carbon dioxide capture and methanation technology by producing synthetic methane from hydrogen and CO2.
According to the companies, CO₂NNEX will provide a digital record of the entire supply chain, allowing stakeholders to track, transfer, and verify the environmental value of e-methane.
Certificates will show how the synthetic fuel was produced and the amount of CO2 utilised, enabling transparent accounting and trading.
