On National Energy Conservation Day 2024, NTPC, India’s largest power utility, renewed its strong focus on energy efficiency, sustainability, and protecting the environment. The company is dedicated to achieving Net Zero in energy, water, and waste across all its operations. By embracing innovative and sustainable practices, NTPC continues to set a leading example in the industry.

NTPC has taken a significant step in advancing its sustainability efforts by partnering with USAID through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on September 5, 2024. This collaboration aims to develop a detailed roadmap for achieving Net Zero status. The roadmap includes ambitious goals such as transforming townships and offices into Net Zero Energy, Water, and Waste facilities, implementing cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices to optimize resources, and promoting awareness among employees and residents. Through these efforts, NTPC is fostering a culture of sustainability and working towards a more environmentally responsible future.

The partnership between NTPC and USAID has led to several key sustainability milestones. NTPC Kudgi STPS township became the first in India to earn the IGBC Net Zero Energy certification, highlighting its strong commitment to reducing energy use and increasing renewable energy usage. NTPC RGPPL Ratnagiri township became the first in India to receive the IGBC Net Zero Water certification, showcasing its leadership in water management. NTPC’s advanced research and development center, NETRA, also earned the IGBC Net Zero Energy certification, reflecting the company’s focus on incorporating sustainability into its research facilities. Additionally, NTPC Khargone Township is working towards earning the IGBC Net Zero Waste certification, aiming for zero waste sent to landfills through effective waste management.
