Leader Energy Plans Major Renewable Energy Expansion With 100 MW Solar Farm In Tanjung Manis, Sarawak

Leader Energy Group Berhad, through its subsidiary Leader Energy (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd (LESSB), has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Sarawak Energy Berhad, via its operations and retail arm Syarikat SESCO Berhad (SESCO), to develop a 100-megawatt (MW) large-scale solar farm in Tanjung Manis, Sarawak. The project is being carried out in close collaboration with local partners, Pusaka Capital Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC), and Smartgen Energy Sdn Bhd.

This initiative represents a landmark development for Tanjung Manis and marks a significant milestone in Sarawak’s renewable energy journey, reflecting Leader Energy’s commitment to advancing Malaysia’s clean energy transition. The solar farm is scheduled for completion by 31 December 2027. Once operational, it will supply clean and reliable electricity to SESCO under a 30-year direct PPA, supporting Sarawak’s goal of building a sustainable, low-carbon energy mix.

Dato’ Sean H’ng, Executive Deputy Chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer of Leader Energy, said in a statement, “This project represents more than just a milestone for Leader Energy — it marks an important step forward for Sarawak in unlocking its solar potential. We are proud to support Sarawak Energy’s vision for energy transition while reinforcing our own aspiration of ‘RE- Energising a tomorrow where renewable energy uplifts lives and economies.’ This project is not only about delivering renewable energy but also about capability transfer and creating long-term value in Sarawak, particularly at Tanjung Manis”.

Sarawak Energy, Malaysia’s largest renewable energy developer, aims to generate 10 GW of renewable energy by 2030 and 15 GW by 2035, aligning with the state’s broader development goals. The region’s electricity generation is primarily based on renewable hydropower, supplemented by indigenous thermal resources to ensure energy security and diversity. Sarawak Energy is also expanding its solar capacity, targeting 1,500 MW by 2030.

The Tanjung Manis solar project aligns with Leader Energy’s Vision 2030 priorities, including a commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. For Sarawak, the project strengthens its position as a clean energy leader while enhancing the state’s ability to meet growing electricity demand through sustainable solutions.
