Verdalia closes major financing for biomethane in Spain and Italy

Verdalia Bioenergy has closed €671m corporate financing, which it claims is the largest of its kind in European biomethane.

The transaction will support the company’s investment plan to build and operate projects across Spain and Italy with an aggregate production capacity in excess of 3 TWh per year. The total capital to be deployed in the portfolio will exceed €1bn.

The financing will cover biomethane plant construction as well as acquisitions, giving Verdalia the tools to pursue both greenfield and brownfield growth in the next four years.

There are already seven plants in operation and six under construction in Italy, which are expected to start injecting biomethane into the grid in early 2026.
