Energy industry-led coalition the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI) has launched a . It is an online tool that consolidates information on carbon dioxide storage permits across nine countries, including the UK, US and Norway.
The tracker monitors exploration (allowing assessment but not injection) and exploitation (authorising injection and permanent storage) permits.
Mapping permitting activity across regions gives policymakers, regulators, project developers, and investors a practical way to benchmark progress and the idea is that it should accelerate the development of carbon capture utilisation and storage (CCUS) projects and hubs.
Built from publicly available data issued by national authorities, the tracker gives decision makers a clear view of permitting activity so they can monitor progress and make plans.
