The UK is to build five ‘Technical Excellence’ colleges as part of a new industrial youth training push as it targets 400,000 new jobs in the clean energy sector by 2030.
Pilot projects to boost skills or pilot training schemes have been earmarked for Cheshire, Lincolnshire and Pembrokeshire which will be backed by £2.5m funding for new training centres, courses or career advisers.
The government has highlighted 31 ‘priority occupations’ with plumbers, electricians, and welders particularly in demand.
Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said, “Communities have long been calling out for a new generation of good industrial jobs. The clean energy jobs boom can answer that call.”
