Industrial gas majors Linde and Air Liquide are among the founding members of a newly formed industrial coalition that aims to build a ledger-based carbon-accounting framework across major sectors.
Called Carbon Measures, the initiative brings together 18 global players, including industry and energy giants like BASF, Bayer and ExxonMobil, to create a common system for tracking and verifying the carbon footprint of products as they move through supply chains.
By recording emissions data on a shared ledger, it seeks to prevent double-counting and ensure that carbon credits and reductions are accurately attributed to the right companies.
For “maximum impact”, the partners will prioritise designing carbon intensity standards for hard-to-abate industrial sectors such as steel, concrete, chemicals, fuel, and electricity.
