Independent gas distributors now move nearly a quarter of the US helium supply, with 65% of that volume sold in the South and West.
Maura Garvey, President of Intelligas Consulting, shared this view, adding that US independents move around 0.44 billion cubic feet (bcf) of helium, in comparison to the majors that shift around 1.52 bcf.
“Lifting, analytical and specialty gas, laboratory, and welding segments make up 80% of the independent distributors’ helium supply,” Garvey said. “The independent distributors purchase helium from major industrial gas companies and low-purity producers to participate in the secondary distribution market.”
The South and West regions dominate independent helium sales due to strong industrial and healthcare demand concentrated in these areas.
