Dubai-based Gulf Cryo has opened the first high-purity carbon capture facility in the UAE.
Developed in partnership with RAK Ceramics in the northern emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, the plant captures carbon dioxide from the manufacturer’s emissions and converts them it into food-grade CO2, which can be used not only in food and beverage applications but also energy and healthcare.
The site – which reportedly will aim to capture around 17,000 tonnes of CO2 annually – contributes to UAE efforts to build a circular carbon economy as well as the emirate’s sustainability strategy and Net Zero 2050 targets. Last year RAK Ceramics reported total emissions of 380.56 million kilos of CO2e.
