Malaysia biorefinery targets regional SAF potential

Work has started on a major biorefinery in Malaysia which will produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for the regional aviation market, which is the fastest-growing globally.

The Pengerang Biorefinery in Johor, which aims to open in the second half of 2028, is a joint venture between Petronas, Enilive and Euglena Co. It will have a processing capacity of up to 650,000 tonnes of renewable feedstock annually.

Feedstocks will include waste such as used vegetable oils and animal fats, and residues from the processing of vegetable oils.
