Iberdrola Australia has been selected as a strategic partner to develop the VNI West (Victoria–New South Wales Interconnector West), a major transmission project that will connect the states of Victoria and New South Wales. The project marks a key step in Iberdrola’s strategy to invest in critical grid infrastructure in markets with strong and stable regulatory frameworks.

The 240 km, 500 kV double-circuit transmission line will increase bidirectional transfer capacity by up to 3.5 GW, unlocking new renewable generation across both states. VNI West will enhance grid reliability, support Victoria’s clean energy transition, and deliver long-term economic and social benefits to local communities.

In the first phase, Iberdrola will collaborate with VicGrid on engineering design, financial and technical planning, and environmental and regulatory approvals. The project’s completion is targeted for 2030, reinforcing Australia’s decarbonisation goals and energy security ambitions.
