A new Swedish pilot project aims to advance the use of captured biogenic carbon dioxide as a renewable feedstock for industries including food and beverage, water purification, chemical manufacturing, and emerging e-fuel production.
The initiative will see carbon capture company Svante Technologies supply its solid sorbent system to forestry-owner association Södra for testing at the Södra Cell Värö industrial site in early 2026.
The project will capture biogenic CO2 from pulp production, a highly CO2-intensive process. Europe’s pulp and paper sector emitted around 86.4 million tonnes of CO2 in 2023.
