Actis Expands Skyline Brazilian Transmission Platform with Strategic Renewable Energy Investments

Actis, a global leader in sustainable infrastructure investment, has announced the acquisition of two new projects to enhance and diversify its Skyline Brazilian transmission platform. These additions bring the platform’s total operational transmission line length to 1,404 km.

Launched in February 2024, Skyline initially owned and operated two transmission line assets spanning 857 km. The platform is now set to acquire 90% ownership of a 435 km above-ground transmission line asset in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina from EDP. This asset, with a 30-year concession period, has 23 years remaining.

Additionally, Skyline is fully acquiring two assets from Vinci Partners. These include a 112 km above-ground transmission line in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil’s southernmost state and a substation along with its equipment in Minas Gerais. Both assets have 22 years remaining on their respective 30-year concession terms.

Transmission infrastructure plays a critical role in advancing the global energy transition, particularly in Brazil, where renewable sources such as hydropower, wind, solar, and biofuels account for 89% of electricity generation. Renewable energy facilities are often located far from population centres, making robust transmission networks essential for delivering clean power to consumers.

At COP29 in November 2024, the Brazilian government raised its climate ambition, committing to a 67% reduction in net greenhouse gas emissions by 2035, compared to 2005 levels. This heightened focus on sustainability underscores the importance of continued investment in Brazil’s power sector to support decarbonization and energy infrastructure development.
