Components manufacturer ITT has expanded its position in the fast-growing market for alternative marine fuels after its Svanehøj business acquired German compressor specialist Köhler & Hörter (KOHO).
Svanehøj sits within ITT’s Industrial Process segment, giving the Danish cryogenic-pump maker the backing of a large engineering group with a global footprint in highly engineered flow technologies.
The deal broadens Svanehøj’s portfolio beyond its established cryogenic pump systems and into hi-tech reciprocating compressors – a capability that has become increasingly important as shipowners prepare for fuels such as LNG, ammonia, hydrogen and CO2.
With debate still ongoing over which fuel will dominate the sector, from ammonia and hydrogen to LNG as a long-term transition option, the ability to handle multiple gas types is becoming a strategic advantage.
