Poland waste firm secures $24m for biogas plant

Polish waste management firm Eko Dolina will receive $28m from the country’s national eco-fund to cover the construction of a biogas plant at its company site in Lezyce.

The plant is expected to process 30,000 tonnes of bio-waste each year. The project’s total cost is likely to exceed $38m, according to the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.

It is slated to receive over $12m in grants and over $15m in loans from the Modernisation Fund – an EU programme that supports 13 lower-income member states in modernising their energy systems.

The biogas produced will be used for the cogeneration of electricity and heat. Excess electricity will be fed into the grid, while heat will power the plant’s wastewater systems.
