UK-based carbon capture company Nuada will deploy its demonstration carbon capture unit at a lime production facility at Singleton Birch, owned and operated by US chemical lime business MLC.
The project is designed to test how Nuada’s technology can be used to reduce emissions from lime production.
“Our collaboration with MLC shows how cutting-edge materials and engineering can support deep emissions reduction in one of the industrial sectors with the most untapped carbon capture potential,” said Dr Jose Casaban, co-CEO of Nuada.
Most of these emissions come from the calcination of limestone, a core step in lime production where calcium carbonate is heated to high temperatures, releasing carbon dioxide as it is converted into quicklime.
