Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals recently shared details of the country’s energy transition plans and investment opportunities at India Energy Week held in Goa. Representing the Sultanate of Oman, Mohsin bin Hamad al Hadhrami, Under-Secretary at the Ministry, explained how Oman has moved beyond planning and is now actively implementing its clean energy strategy. He said the country’s approach is guided by Oman Vision 2040, which aims to ensure energy security while supporting economic growth and environmental protection.

A key highlight of the presentation was green hydrogen, which Oman sees as a major pillar of its future energy system. Al Hadhrami said the country has made strong progress in building a complete ecosystem for green hydrogen development. Several large-scale projects have already been awarded, with total planned investments crossing $50 billion. Oman is targeting the production of around one million tonnes of green hydrogen per year by 2030. To achieve this target, the government is planning critical infrastructure such as transport networks, storage facilities, and export terminals to support large-scale production and global trade.

Alongside hydrogen, Oman is also expanding its renewable energy capacity through solar and wind power projects, as well as waste-to-energy initiatives. Together, these projects represent a combined capacity of about 4,515 megawatts. According to the Ministry, this expansion will help strengthen the national power grid, improve supply reliability, and make the energy mix more efficient and sustainable.

To attract global investors, Oman has introduced several regulatory and financial incentives. These measures are designed to improve project viability and provide long-term confidence to investors. Al Hadhrami said that clear and transparent regulations are central to Oman’s strategy, making it an attractive destination for clean energy investments.

During the India Energy Week, which saw participation from more than 100 countries, the Omani delegation also held bilateral meetings with international energy companies and institutions. These discussions focused on possible partnerships in clean energy technologies and the use of artificial intelligence and digital tools in the energy sector.

Oman has also completed a detailed review of its carbon-neutral strategy. This includes practical steps to improve energy efficiency across industries and investments in training and skill development to prepare the local workforce for new opportunities in the green economy.

Through its participation at the event, Oman reaffirmed its commitment to global cooperation, sustainable development, and a long-term net-zero .
