Discussions at Solar Flex Prague emphasized the growing importance of flexibility in energy systems increasingly powered by renewable sources. Czechia is making significant progress in this area, with its battery storage market expanding rapidly. Over 90% of new residential photovoltaic systems in the country are now paired with battery storage, according to SolarPower Europe’s European Market Outlook for Battery Storage. Early national measures to encourage battery adoption have been positively received by both industry participants and policymakers.
Looking ahead, two upcoming policy developments in Czechia were highlighted as having the potential to drive further investment in energy storage: the planned tariff review and the introduction of a capacity remuneration mechanism. Both initiatives could enhance the economic viability of large-scale battery projects and further strengthen the role of flexibility within the energy system.
During the conference, SolarPower Europe shared recommendations for meeting Europe’s flexibility needs by 2030. These included developing a dedicated EU Flexibility Strategy supported by a Battery Storage Action Plan. The association also stressed the need to scale battery energy storage capacity tenfold by 2030, consistent with the findings of the EU Battery Storage Market Review 2025, which reported a record 27.1 GWh of new battery deployments in Europe in 2025.
The discussions at Solar Flex Prague demonstrated strong alignment among industry, regulators, system operators, and policymakers on the urgent need to deploy flexibility solutions. These insights are expected to guide future policy and investment decisions in Czechia and across Europe, supporting the development of a more resilient, affordable, and decarbonized energy system.
SolarPower Europe thanked its event partners, the Czech Energy Storage Association AKU‑BAT CZ and the Czech Solar Association Solární asociace, for their collaboration in organizing the conference. The Solar Flex series will continue throughout 2026, with upcoming events including Solar Flex Croatia on 17 March and Solar Flex Italy on 9 April.
