Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc. and a leading global developer, owner, and operator of solar and energy storage assets, has announced the successful completion of the sale of its 200 MWh Fort Duncan Battery Storage facility to Hunt Energy Network, L.L.C.. The revenue from this transaction is expected to be recognized by Canadian Solar in the first quarter of 2026. This development marks another important step in Recurrent Energy’s strategy to selectively monetize assets to fuel future expansion while reinforcing its position as a major force within the U.S. energy storage market.

Situated in Maverick County, Fort Duncan Battery Storage reached commercial operation in June 2025. Prior to entering service, the project secured approximately $183 million in project financing and tax equity support, underscoring investor confidence in its long-term operational value. Operating on a merchant basis, the facility has quickly distinguished itself as one of the strongest standalone battery energy storage systems within the ERCOT South load zone.

Its performance has proven crucial for grid reliability in South Texas, especially during periods of peak demand and grid stress. The system’s stability and responsiveness are supported by advanced battery energy storage technology supplied by Canadian Solar’s e-STORAGE division, which has played a significant role in strengthening the project’s operational success.

With this acquisition, Hunt Energy Network further expands its growing energy storage footprint. The company is part of one of the largest privately held energy enterprises in the United States and has spent the past four years building a diversified and strategically positioned battery portfolio. Following the addition of the Fort Duncan facility, Hunt Energy Network now owns and operates 420 MW of battery storage systems, reinforcing its long-term commitment to energy innovation within ERCOT.

Executive Chairman Pat Wood III noted that the acquisition represents a substantial advancement in the company’s mission to scale its presence in Texas’s competitive power market. He emphasized the importance of the collaboration with Recurrent Energy and expressed confidence in the long-term value that Fort Duncan will bring to the grid and to the company’s portfolio.

Commenting on the completion of the sale, Ismael Guerrero highlighted the facility’s exceptional performance and its critical role in supporting the Texas grid. He noted that Fort Duncan Storage has already proven itself as a dependable, flexible, and high-performing asset, making it an attractive project for monetization at this stage of Recurrent Energy’s development strategy. Guerrero underscored that the transaction reflects the company’s disciplined approach to asset management and aligns with its long-term vision for expanding and strengthening its global renewable energy and storage portfolio.
