Week in Africa: JinkoSolar Connects Tanzania Solar; Natura Closes 31 MW Solar and More…

JinkoSolar has enabled full grid connection of Tanzania’s first solar PV project, marking a milestone in the country’s renewable energy transition. The project strengthens Tanzania’s power diversification efforts while improving electricity reliability and supporting sustainable development goals through clean energy deployment.


Natura Energy has achieved financial close for a 31 MW solar project at Parsons Power Park in South Africa’s Eastern Cape. The project is expected to enhance regional renewable capacity, support grid decarbonization, and attract further investment into South Africa’s growing independent power producer market.


Tunisia has issued 187 licenses to small and medium enterprises to develop 287 MW of solar projects. The initiative strengthens decentralized energy development and encourages local participation in the renewable sector while supporting Tunisia’s national strategy to increase clean energy share.


Clean energy investment across Africa reached a record $15 billion, signaling growing global confidence in the continent’s renewable potential. Globeleq has acquired a 51% stake in Zambia’s Lunsemfwa Hydro Power Company (LHPC), strengthening its renewable portfolio in Southern Africa. The move supports long-term power generation capacity expansion and reinforces the company’s commitment to sustainable energy investments.


Alliance High School in Kenya has launched a 151 kW solar-plus-storage pilot project under the country’s public school solarisation programme. The initiative aims to reduce electricity costs, enhance energy reliability, and demonstrate the potential of distributed solar solutions.


Solar & Storage Ethiopia 2026 concluded with strong participation from policymakers, investors, and technology providers. The event highlighted Africa’s growing renewable energy ecosystem and recognized innovation, leadership, and collaboration driving the continent’s clean energy future.


Sineng Electric will supply central inverter solutions to Egypt’s 1.65 GW Benban Solar Park, one of the world’s largest solar installations. The project continues to strengthen Egypt’s renewable capacity and reinforces Benban’s status as a flagship solar hub.


South Africa is expanding solar-powered EV charging infrastructure for heavy-duty trucks along the N3 corridor. The project supports sustainable freight transport while reducing emissions and promoting clean mobility solutions within the country’s logistics sector.


Egypt continues to accelerate renewable deployment through supportive policies and investments in solar and energy storage. Strategic initiatives aim to expand capacity, strengthen grid resilience, and position Egypt as a regional hub for clean energy development.


Ghana’s Tema Port has introduced a 1.5 MW on-site solar pilot project with plans to expand to 6 MW. The initiative supports sustainable port operations while reducing energy costs and emissions through renewable power integration.


US Energy Secretary Chris Wright joined global leaders at the Powering Africa Summit 2026 to strengthen US–Africa energy cooperation. Discussions focused on investment opportunities, renewable energy partnerships, and strategies to accelerate energy access across the continent.
