Ameren Illinois is offering flexible payment options and assistance programs for customers who are behind on their energy bills. The company says the goal is to help households manage financial difficulties and regain control of their monthly expenses. “We know that financial challenges can be stressful for our customers and their families,” said Joe Solari. He explained that reduced down-payment options, energy-assistance programs and energy-saving tools are all intended to support customers as they work toward staying current on their bills.

Through March 31, eligible customers with overdue balances can set up a payment plan by paying just 10 percent of the amount they owe. Starting April 1, the required down payment will return to the standard 20 to 25 percent of the arrears. Customers can establish a payment plan by logging into their accounts on the Ameren Illinois website, and those who prefer assistance by phone can call the company’s customer service line at (800) 755-5000.

For households facing financial hardship, several assistance options are available. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides support to eligible income-qualified customers. In addition to a one-time credit on their energy bill, LIHEAP recipients are automatically approved for the Natural Gas Service Discount program, which provides ongoing monthly savings.

Customers can get more details, check eligibility guidelines or locate a nearby assistance agency by calling the Help Illinois Families Hotline at (833) 711-0374 or visiting the Help Illinois Families website. Another support program, Warm Neighbors Cool Friends, offers year-round heating and cooling assistance to individuals who may not qualify for state or federal programs but still need financial help. More information is available on the program’s website.

Customers can also explore ways to reduce energy use and lower costs through efficiency programs. The Ameren Illinois Energy Efficiency Program provides a Residential Eligibility Tool that helps users quickly determine which energy-saving opportunities they may qualify for. These options can help improve home comfort, manage energy consumption and reduce monthly bills. Together, these initiatives are designed to give customers practical and accessible ways to manage their energy expenses and find assistance when needed across the United States.
