Florida-based marine and energy company Crowley’s American Energy LNG carrier has shipped over two million cubic metres of US-sourced LNG to Puerto Rico since .
Through a multi-year partnership with Spanish energy company Naturgy, cargoes have been delivered to the EcoEléctrica power facility in Peñuelas, Puerto Rico.
LNG delivered by Crowley this year has provided enough energy to power over one million homes, while reducing emissions by almost 30% compared to diesel.
Jenniffer González-Colón, Governor of Puerto Rico, said, “We will always support such initiatives that advance Puerto Rico’s energy security and economic growth.”
Crowley also supplies around 94 million gallons of LNG annually to Puerto Rico, through its loading terminal in Penuelas, using its ISO tank containers for transport.
Jackie Gonsalez, Vice-President of Advanced Energy at Crowley, said the past year has signalled dependable access to energy for Puerto Rico.
The milestone comes amid tightening global LNG supply, following disruptions to production in the Gulf.
Ras Laffan houses the world’s largest LNG export facility, the largest artificial harbour, and extensive infrastructure for LNG, gas-to-liquid, petrochemicals, refineries, and a power/water desalination plant.
