Malaysia’s Solar Industry Urges Faster Rollout Of C&I Renewable Energy Projects

The Malaysian Photovoltaic Industry Association (MPIA) has urged the government to speed up renewable energy efforts, especially in the Commercial and Industrial (C&I) solar segment. This request comes at a time when Malaysia is working towards achieving its net-zero carbon emission goals and building a stronger green economy.

According to the association, the country has already made good progress in solar energy adoption, but the pace of C&I solar projects remains slow. These projects involve installing solar panels on the rooftops of factories, warehouses, and office buildings. By generating their own electricity, businesses can reduce power costs and lower carbon emissions at the same time.

Industry experts have pointed out that one of the key challenges is the current administrative and regulatory system. The approval process for solar installations is often seen as complex and time-consuming. The MPIA believes that simplifying procedures and providing clear guidelines can help attract more businesses to invest in solar solutions. Faster approvals can also support grid stability by increasing the share of clean energy.

The association also highlighted the economic advantages of expanding the solar sector. A strong solar industry can create jobs in engineering, installation, and maintenance. It can also help develop a local supply chain, reducing reliance on imported energy technologies and strengthening the domestic economy.

In addition to policy changes, the MPIA has called for better financial support. Existing initiatives like the Net Energy Metering (NEM) scheme have played an important role in promoting solar adoption. However, the industry believes that expanding such programs or introducing new tax incentives could encourage more companies to switch to solar energy.

Overall, the push for faster implementation of renewable energy projects is seen as beneficial for both the environment and the economy. It supports global climate goals while improving energy security and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. The MPIA remains confident that with stronger government support and improved policies, the C&I solar segment can play a major role in the country’s clean energy transition.

As businesses become more aware of sustainability and cost savings, the demand for solar energy is expected to grow. With the right policy framework in place, Malaysia can accelerate its journey towards a greener and more sustainable future.
