PT PLN (Persero) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions to strengthen electricity access and support economic development in rural and disadvantaged regions across Indonesia.
The agreement, signed at the ministry’s office in Jakarta, aims to accelerate village electrification while improving economic productivity through better energy utilization and management.
Under the partnership, both parties will collaborate on data integration and mapping of village energy requirements, expanding electricity access in underserved regions, and promoting electricity-driven productive economic activities. The initiative also includes community empowerment programs, human resource capacity development, and the deployment of locally sourced renewable energy systems to build sustainable village energy infrastructure.
Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions Yandri Susanto said the partnership aligns with the government’s broader strategy to strengthen village independence and accelerate rural economic growth.
According to the minister, villages are increasingly being positioned as active drivers of development rather than passive recipients, with stronger stakeholder collaboration considered essential for achieving sustainable progress and reducing poverty.
Raffi Ahmad, Special Envoy to the President for Youth Development and Arts Workers, said the collaboration reflects the importance of cross-sector cooperation in strengthening local economies and supporting village-based development.
Meanwhile, Darmawan Prasodjo said PLN remains committed to ensuring equal and reliable electricity access across Indonesia, describing rural energy access as a key enabler of new economic growth.
He noted that strengthening electricity infrastructure in villages would help create business opportunities, improve living standards, and support broader economic inclusion.
The initiative also aligns with the government’s rural development agenda under President Prabowo Subianto, which emphasizes collaborative efforts among public institutions, private companies, and academic institutions to support village empowerment and poverty reduction.
