The pipeline from Barcelona to Fos-sur-Mer named BarMar, is part of the H2Med trans-European pipeline project which also features a corresponding link between Portugal and Spain, the CelZa pipeline.
Led by transmission system operators (TSO) NaTran and Teréga of France, and Enagás of Spain, BarMar will also feature compression stations on either side of the subsea crossing.
The consortium is hosting two months of consultations beginning May 6, including 25 public discussions regarding wider effects of the pipeline’s construction.
H2Med is designed to connect low-cost green hydrogen production using strong solar irradiance and abundant wind resources on the Iberian Peninsula, with industrial demand centres in France, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
The peninsula is set for the construction of flagship green hydrogen projects including Moeve’s 1GW hydrogen hub and Enagás and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ 500MW Catalina project.
A designated European Project of Common Interest, H2Med has so far seen €35.56m ($41.8m) in direct Connecting Europe Facility funding across the BarMar and CelZa interconnectors.
