JCB’s hydrogen equipment joint venture (JV) Hykit has unveiled a new mobile hydrogen refuelling unit designed to replace onsite diesel across construction, industrial, and mobility sectors.
The JV, comprising JCB, HYCAP, and HydraB, said its MHR X75 carries up to 75kg of hydrogen and delivers refuelling in 10–15 minutes.
The trailer-mounted unit, which is certified to design, transport, and safety standards, is engineered for quick setup and deployment in challenging environments.
Dr John Vickers, Hykit’s director of engineering, said the system removes a usability hurdle by allowing on-site refuelling without a fixed supply.
“Hydrogen adoption isn’t being held back by technology, it’s being held back by infrastructure,” he said.
The system adds to the continuing advancement of hydrogen-powered technology for onsite applications in industry and construction.
Earlier this year, Komatsu tested a hydrogen-fuelled in Japan, while in the UK Hitachi a fuel cell generator on a UK construction site and fuel cell maker Intelligent energy supplied 40 for an EU-funded hydrogen cluster project.
JCB has also been developing its own hydrogen-compatible equipment.
After securing full EU for its hydrogen combustion engine in May 2025, it a 540-180H Loadall under its power the following month.
