Ameren Transmission Company of Illinois (ATXI) and Ameren Missouri are continuing public engagement efforts for the Eastern Missouri Grid Transformation Project by hosting a second round of in-person open houses across the project area. The events are intended to provide residents, landowners, and local stakeholders with updated information on the project and gather additional feedback on the latest route proposals.

The Eastern Missouri Grid Transformation Project is a major infrastructure initiative designed to strengthen and modernize the region’s electricity transmission network. The project aims to improve grid reliability and resilience by upgrading aging infrastructure and replacing older transmission lines that are becoming increasingly vulnerable to outages and operational challenges.

By creating a stronger and more interconnected transmission system, the project will also improve access to affordable electricity generated from a wider range of energy resources across the Midwest.According to project officials, community feedback received during earlier consultations has already played an important role in shaping the project’s development.

Based on comments and concerns raised by residents and stakeholders, route options have been reviewed and refined in an effort to reduce impacts on landowners, communities, and environmentally sensitive areas wherever possible.Jim Jontry, Project Manager for the Eastern Missouri Grid Transformation Project, stated that public input has been instrumental in helping the project team improve proposed route options.

He encouraged residents throughout the project area to attend the upcoming open houses, review the latest plans, ask questions, and share their perspectives. He also emphasized that the project team remains committed to minimizing disruptions while delivering the long-term reliability and economic benefits associated with the transmission upgrades. The proposed project will extend across six counties and the City of St. Louis, involving the construction and upgrade of more than 130 miles of transmission infrastructure.

A significant portion of the new transmission lines will be rebuilt along existing utility corridors and co-located with existing Ameren facilities, reducing the need for entirely new transmission routes. The project also includes plans for the construction of a new substation, known as the Graus Substation, near Orchard Farm in St. Charles County.

The upcoming open houses will provide attendees with an opportunity to review updated route segments and discuss project details directly with members of the project team. Rather than formal presentations, the events will follow an open-house format, allowing participants to explore information at their own pace, ask questions, and provide comments.

All sessions will offer the same information, enabling residents to attend the location and time most convenient for them.To complement the in-person meetings, Ameren has also made project information available through a self-guided virtual engagement platform, which includes project materials and an interactive comment map where stakeholders can submit feedback online.

The open house schedule includes events across multiple communities in eastern Missouri:On June 8, open houses will be held in Marion County at Iron Gate Estate in Palmyra and in St. Charles County at Venue 827 in St. Charles. Both locations will host sessions from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and again from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.On June 9, residents can attend sessions in Ralls County at the New London Lions Club in New London and in St. Charles County at the Knights of Columbus Hall in St. Paul.

Both venues will offer identical afternoon and evening sessions. On June 10, open houses will take place in Pike County at VFW Post 5553 in Bowling Green and in the City of St. Louis at the O’Fallon Park Recreation Complex YMCA. Again, attendees can participate during either the midday or evening session.

The final round of meetings will be held on June 11, with events scheduled in Lincoln County at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Troy and in St. Louis County at VFW Post 3944 in Overland. Both locations will follow the same open-house schedule. The Eastern Missouri Grid Transformation Project is currently planned to enter service by 2032.

Once completed, the upgraded transmission system is expected to improve grid reliability, support future energy demand growth, increase access to lower-cost electricity resources, and enhance the overall resilience of the regional power network. As utilities across the United States continue to modernize aging infrastructure and prepare for increasing electrification, projects such as the Eastern Missouri Grid Transformation Project are becoming an important part of long-term energy planning.

Through ongoing community engagement and stakeholder participation, Ameren aims to ensure that the project is developed in a way that balances infrastructure needs with local concerns while delivering lasting benefits for customers and communities throughout eastern Missouri.
