Top Stories Of The Day: Global Solar Capacity Tops 3 TW -India Ranks Second; GUVNL Launches 450 MW/900 MWh BESS Tender; GERC Proposes New Green Energy Banking Charges and More…

Global solar power capacity surpassed the landmark 3 TW threshold after a record 664 GW of new solar installations were added during 2025. The achievement highlights the accelerating pace of clean energy deployment worldwide. India emerged as the world’s second-largest solar market, reinforcing its growing role in the global energy transition and contributing significantly to the unprecedented annual capacity additions that continue to drive decarbonization efforts across major economies.

Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) has floated a tender for developing a 450 MW/900 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Gujarat. The project is backed by viability gap funding support of ₹18 lakh per MWh, aimed at enhancing grid reliability and renewable energy integration. The initiative aligns with India’s growing focus on large-scale energy storage infrastructure to support rising renewable penetration.

The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) has released a draft amendment proposing dynamic green energy banking charges effective from FY 2027. The proposal aims to better align banking mechanisms with grid conditions and renewable energy demand patterns. If implemented, the revised framework could significantly influence renewable project economics, energy management strategies, and consumer participation in green energy programs across Gujarat.

The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) has issued clarifications regarding intra-state connectivity transfers for renewable energy projects. The guidance is intended to streamline administrative processes and remove ambiguity surrounding project connectivity rights. The clarification is expected to facilitate smoother project execution, improve regulatory certainty, and support continued renewable energy development across Andhra Pradesh.

The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has approved BSES Rajdhani Power Limited’s 97.5 MW/195 MWh Battery Energy Storage System project. The storage facility is expected to strengthen grid resilience, improve peak demand management, and enhance integration of renewable energy resources within Delhi’s power network. The approval marks another significant step in advancing urban energy storage deployment in India.

Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has issued a ₹5.67 crore tender for the development of a 1 MW solar power project at its LPG Bottling Plant in Delhi. The project aims to reduce conventional power consumption, lower carbon emissions, and support the company’s sustainability objectives. The initiative reflects increasing adoption of captive solar generation across industrial and public sector facilities.

Authorities in Mizoram have floated a tender for setting up a 1.5 MW solar power plant at Zoram Medical College Hospital. The project aims to strengthen clean energy adoption in the healthcare sector while improving energy reliability and reducing operational costs. The initiative supports the state’s renewable energy goals and demonstrates growing interest in solar deployment across public institutions.

The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission has granted a six-month extension for a 5.5 MW wind-solar hybrid power project. The extension provides additional time for project completion amid development challenges. The decision is expected to support successful commissioning while ensuring the project’s contribution toward Gujarat’s renewable energy targets and hybrid energy expansion strategy.

Waaree Renewable Technologies Limited has completed the acquisition of a 55% stake in APSPL, strengthening its renewable energy portfolio and expanding its market presence. The strategic investment is expected to enhance project execution capabilities, diversify business opportunities, and support the company’s long-term growth objectives within India’s rapidly evolving clean energy sector.
