Renewable energy developer ib vogt and hyperscale data center company AirTrunk have officially started commercial operations of a 29.99 MWac solar power project in Malaysia. The project marks the country’s first renewable energy Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) for a data center under Malaysia’s Corporate Green Power Program (CGPP). It is considered an important milestone in supporting Malaysia’s clean energy transition while meeting the increasing electricity demand from cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
The solar project has been developed under a long-term agreement and is now generating renewable electricity that is being supplied directly to the Malaysian power grid. The initiative demonstrates how renewable energy companies and digital infrastructure providers can work together to promote sustainable growth while reducing carbon emissions. It also supports the country’s efforts to increase the share of renewable energy in its electricity mix.
The project is expected to strengthen Malaysia’s clean energy ecosystem by adding new renewable generation capacity to the national grid. At the same time, it provides a stable source of green electricity for large-scale data center operations, which require significant and reliable power supplies.
