Vikram Solar has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Tamil Nadu to establish a new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility at Gangaikondan in the Tirunelveli district. The MoU was exchanged in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru C. Joseph Vijay, marking a significant step in the state’s efforts to expand its clean energy manufacturing sector.
The proposed project will involve an investment of ₹15,037 crore and is expected to generate around 2,670 employment opportunities. The facility is aimed at supporting the growing demand for battery energy storage systems, which play a crucial role in integrating renewable energy into the power grid and improving energy reliability.
Vikram Solar already has an established manufacturing footprint in Tamil Nadu through its solar PV module production facilities at Oragadam and Vallam. In addition, the company is preparing to commission its upcoming integrated solar manufacturing facility at Gangaikondan.
The new BESS manufacturing plant will further strengthen the clean energy ecosystem developing in the Gangaikondan region. It is expected to complement the company’s existing and upcoming manufacturing operations while supporting the state’s ambition to become a major hub for renewable energy technologies, battery storage solutions, and advanced manufacturing. The investment also highlights growing industry confidence in Tamil Nadu’s supportive environment for clean energy development and industrial expansion.
