Swiss compressor technology company Burckhardt Compression (Burckhardt) has completed the acquisition of Italian compressor manufacturer Fornovo Gas (Fornovo), strengthening its European biogas footprint.
Burckhardt to acquire Fornovo in May of this year. The deal will see Burckhardt integrate Fornovo’s mid-sized reciprocating compressors into its existing compression solutions portfolio.
Fornovo employs around 120 people and generates multi-million CHF sales.
The company has installed 2,500 compressors in 60 countries and has historically invested 10% of its revenue in research and development, alongside customer service.
Compressor technology supports the production and upgrading of biogas by enabling the movement and storage of biogas and biomethane generated through the anaerobic fermentation and purification of biomass.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) reports that EU production of biogases increased by 3% in 2024, with biogas up 1% and biomethane up 14% from 2023.
Italy, Germany, France, Denmark, and the Netherlands accounted for 93% of EU biomethane production in 2024.
