Louisiana-headquartered industrial gas distributor Red Ball Oxygen has completed a new installation in Houston, supplying carbon dioxide (CO2), argon, oxygen, and nitrogen infrastructure for a fabrication facility.
The company’s bulk and pipe crew completed a system connecting CO2 and argon supplies to a high-flow mixer for an undisclosed customer.
Piping was installed throughout 400,000 square feet of fabrication space to support the facility’s operations.
Alex Kennedy, CEO of Red Ball Oxygen, told gasworld, “It’s a process because of all the interior piping, but the whole building [took] approximately four weeks.”
Red Ball Oxygen also installed oxygen and nitrogen lines using K-copper tubing to support a variable gas laser cutting system.
Assist gases are used in the laser cutting process to remove the molten material from the cutting area and improve cut quality and edge finish.
A variable gas laser cutting system allows users to adjust the type, composition, or pressure of the assist gas during operation, depending on the material and cutting requirements.
The Houston installation follows Red Ball Oxygen’s broader expansion efforts. In May, the company production at its Friendswood facility, south of Houston, increasing its production of US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) protocol gases by 20%.
