ESR, an Asia-Pacific real asset owner and manager, has entered into an agreement to acquire 100% of Aquila Clean Energy APAC from Aquila Group, strengthening its presence in the region’s renewable energy sector.
Aquila Clean Energy APAC develops, owns, and operates solar, battery energy storage, and wind assets across key Asia-Pacific markets. The platform currently has a 1.6 GW portfolio comprising operational, under-construction, and advanced-stage development projects across Australia and New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.
The transaction is intended to expand ESR’s capabilities across renewable energy while complementing its existing logistics real estate and data centre businesses. ESR said rising power demand, industrial decarbonisation, and the growing energy requirements of logistics infrastructure and data centres are creating stronger links between real estate and energy infrastructure.
The acquisition will also build on ESR’s existing activities and pipeline in solar and battery storage, providing additional opportunities to develop and offer renewable energy investment solutions to its capital partners.
Phil Pearce, President of ESR, said the company is focusing on sectors supporting resilient supply chains, digital economies, and long-term economic development. He highlighted the increasing interconnection between logistics infrastructure, data centres, and power demand across the region.
Apurv Choudhary, Group Head of Infrastructure at ESR, said Aquila Clean Energy APAC brings an experienced team and diversified renewable energy portfolio across key Asia-Pacific markets. ESR intends to scale the platform while maintaining its focus on investment returns and execution.
The transaction is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2027, subject to customary closing conditions and applicable regulatory approvals.
Following completion, ESR plans to work with the existing Aquila Clean Energy APAC management team to accelerate the platform’s growth, expand investment solutions, and pursue opportunities across its Asia-Pacific operations.
Roman Rosslenbroich, CEO and Co-founder of Aquila Group, said the transaction reflects the development of Aquila Clean Energy APAC into a regional clean energy platform spanning solar, wind, and battery storage.
The acquisition will give ESR access to a diversified renewable energy portfolio across several major Asia-Pacific markets and further expand its exposure to the region’s clean energy infrastructure sector.
