US liquefied natural gas producer Venture Global has reached commercial operation at Phase 1 of its Plaquemines LNG facility in Louisiana.

The first cargo has been delivered to multinational energy firm Shell under its long-term sales and purchase agreement.

Phase 2 is expected to reach commercial operation from mid-2027, bringing Plaquemines maximum liquefaction capacity up to 28 mtpa.

However, through a planned facility expansion, Venture Global plans to add over 30 mtpa LNG production capacity and bring the Plaquemines total capacity to more than 58 mtpa.

In March, the US Department of Energy a 13% export expansion for Plaquemines.

With this, Venture Global can export a total of 3.85 billion cubic feet a day (bcf/d) of LNG.

This comes after the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) that US LNG exports averaged 17.4 bcf/d in the first half (H1) of 2026, up 23% from H1 2025.

The EIA attributes the increase in domestic LNG exports during H1 2026 to additional volumes from startup production at new terminals and expansion at existing terminals.

Venture Global posted a in Q2 as it capitalised on higher LNG sales volumes predominantly tied to the Plaquemines LNG facility in Louisiana.

It has over 100 mtpa of domestic LNG capacity in production, construction, or development on the US Gulf Coast.

In March, Venture Global reached final investment decision on the of its 29 mtpa CP2 LNG export facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana.
