Adani Green Energy Becomes India’s First RE Company to Surpass 12,000 MW Operational Capacity

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), India’s largest renewable energy company, has achieved a major milestone by surpassing 12,000 megawatts (MW) of operational capacity, making it the first and only renewable energy company in the country to reach this benchmark.

AGEL’s total operational portfolio now stands at 12,258.1 MW, comprising 8,347.5 MW of solar, 1,651 MW of wind, and 2,259.6 MW of wind-solar hybrid capacity. The achievement reinforces AGEL’s commitment to delivering 50,000 MW of clean, affordable, and reliable power by 2030.

The company’s existing portfolio is capable of powering over 6.2 million homes while reducing CO₂ emissions by 22.64 million tonnes annually, equivalent to the carbon sequestration of 1,078 million trees.

  • Largest greenfield expansion in India’s renewable energy sector
  • Represents approximately 10% of India’s installed utility-scale solar and wind capacity*
  • Accounts for over 13% of India’s utility-scale solar installations*

AGEL is currently developing the world’s largest renewable energy plant at Khavda in Kutch, Gujarat, with a total capacity of 30,000 MW. Spread across 538 square kilometers, the project is five times the size of Paris and nearly as large as Mumbai. Once fully operational, it will be the largest power plant globally across all energy sources.

AGEL has already commissioned 2,824.1 MW of renewable energy capacity at Khavda, with development progressing at an accelerated pace. The company is leveraging the expertise of Adani Infra, Adani New Industries Limited, Adani Infrastructure Management Services Ltd., and its strategic partners to ensure rapid execution.

The initiative aligns with India’s goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, reinforcing AGEL’s pivotal role in the nation’s clean energy transition.
