India and the European Union (EU) have reinforced their commitment to clean energy and sustainable technologies during the second EU-India Trade and Technology Council (TTC) meeting. The discussions, held in New Delhi, focused on advancing cooperation in green technology and accelerating the transition towards net-zero emissions.

Both sides acknowledged the crucial role of research and innovation in fostering clean technology adoption and market integration. A joint research initiative, backed by a combined budget of EUR 60 million, will drive advancements in three key areas: electric vehicle (EV) battery recycling, marine plastic waste reduction, and waste-to-hydrogen technology. The EV battery recycling effort aims to develop low-cost, flexible, and sustainable battery solutions, while the marine plastic project will enhance detection, measurement, and mitigation techniques. Waste-to-hydrogen research will focus on efficient hydrogen production from biogenic waste.

In addition, India and the EU have emphasized knowledge exchange and training. Indian experts recently participated in a program on EV interoperability and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) at the EU’s Joint Research Centre in Italy. A hybrid workshop on EV charging technologies was also conducted, alongside a matchmaking event connecting startups from both regions to promote EV battery recycling innovations.

Further collaboration will explore harmonizing standards for EV charging infrastructure and hydrogen safety regulations. By strengthening clean technology cooperation, India and the EU aim to accelerate their respective net-zero targets while fostering resilient and sustainable energy systems globally.
