The Malaysian government is set to discuss plans for expanding solar farm projects on natural lakes and former mining sites as part of its renewable energy strategy. The topic is expected to be a key focus in today’s Dewan Rakyat session.
According to the parliamentary agenda, Howard Lee Chuan How (PH-Ipoh Timur) has sought clarification from the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation regarding policies that support large-scale solar farm developments on underutilized land. The discussion is likely to cover feasibility, regulatory considerations, and alignment with Malaysia’s clean energy objectives.
Beyond solar energy, nuclear infrastructure development is also expected to be addressed. P. Prabakaran (PH-Batu) has raised a question about potential collaborations with technologically advanced nations such as France and Japan to explore nuclear energy as a safe and efficient alternative.
Rural infrastructure concerns will also be discussed, with Datuk Larry Sng Wei Shien (PBM-Julau) urging the Minister of Education to outline measures ensuring clean water supply to schools in remote areas. The discussion is expected to focus on concrete solutions and a timeline for implementation.
