Oman is solidifying its position as a regional leader in renewable energy with significant investments in green hydrogen production, leveraging its abundant solar and wind resources. As global efforts toward decarbonization intensify, the country is actively expanding its clean energy initiatives to support a sustainable energy transition.

Oman is home to five of the ten largest active and upcoming low-carbon hydrogen projects in the Middle East. These projects, integrating renewable energy sources, are set to enhance the nation’s clean energy infrastructure and contribute to its long-term sustainability goals.

Among the key projects driving Oman’s green hydrogen ambitions are:

  • ACME Duqm Hydrogen Project Phase 2, scheduled for operation in 2028, aims to produce 497 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa) of green hydrogen using solar energy.
  • POSCO Consortium Duqm Hydrogen Project, expected to generate 220 ktpa of green hydrogen by 2030, utilizing a combination of solar and wind power.
  • Amnah Consortium Duqm Hydrogen Plant, with a projected capacity of 215 ktpa, is set to commence operations by 2028.
  • Fortescue Future Industries Oman Hydrogen Project, a joint venture between Actis Corp and Fortescue Future Industries, plans to produce 200 ktpa of green hydrogen by 2030 using renewable sources.
  • EDF Oman Hydrogen Project, targeting a production capacity of 178 ktpa, further strengthens the country’s commitment to clean energy development.

Oman’s renewable energy strategy aligns with its broader goal of reducing carbon emissions and positioning itself as a key player in the global hydrogen economy. By integrating large-scale solar and wind energy with hydrogen production, the country aims to enhance energy security, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and establish itself as a major exporter of clean energy.

With these initiatives, Oman continues to play a crucial role in advancing renewable energy adoption in the Middle East, reinforcing its commitment to a sustainable and low-carbon future.
