Tata Power Odisha Discoms Drive Change, Empowering Over 12,000 Women

Tata Power-led Odisha Discoms are dedicated to empowering communities and promoting sustainable livelihoods, with a strong focus on women’s empowerment. Through initiatives in education, employment, entrepreneurship, and healthcare, the company is helping women across Odisha become financially independent and self-reliant. By combining skill development with economic opportunities, Tata Power is not only advancing gender equality but also contributing to long-term socio-economic growth in the region.

A key part of this effort is the engagement of 1,220 Women Self-Help Groups (WSHGs), benefiting over 12,000 women through training, financial assistance, and market connections. These groups play an important role in creating income opportunities and fostering financial independence. Additionally, Tata Power-led Odisha Discoms have supported 1,913 Abhas across the state by training them in technical fields like electricity metering, billing, and collection, while also promoting energy conservation in both urban and rural areas. Recognizing the importance of education in empowerment, Tata Power has established 55 Women Literacy Centers, helping more than 2,000 women develop basic literacy skills. The company also facilitates access to government programs that support women’s education and financial growth.

A Tata Power Spokesperson said in a statement, “We are deeply committed to the Tata Group’s ethos of nation-building and inclusive growth. Empowering women is not just about uplifting individuals—it’s about strengthening entire communities. Through our focused initiatives in education, skill development, and entrepreneurship, we are bridging knowledge gaps and enhancing opportunities, enabling women to achieve financial independence and sustainable livelihoods. By equipping them with the right tools and support, we are fostering self-reliance and resilience to create a more inclusive society.”

Furthering its commitment to skill development, Tata Power has set up 12 Vocational Training Centers and a Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Center, training over 2,000 women in fields such as healthcare, hospitality, tailoring, and beauty services, equipping them with the skills needed for sustainable employment. As Women’s Day approaches, Tata Power-led Odisha Discoms celebrate the resilience and achievements of women across the state. Through continuous efforts in education, economic opportunities, and social support, the company remains committed to building a more inclusive and progressive society.
