Industrial gas major Air Liquide expanded its use of long-term low-carbon power purchase agreements in 2025 as part of its decarbonisation efforts.
It started several multi-year PPAs during the year, securing around 3 TWh of additional annual low-carbon electricity. This compares with 2.5 TWh signed in 2024.
The agreements are concentrated in regions with carbon-intensive power grids, including China and South Africa. In 2025, Air Liquide also signed its first PPAs in India, marking its entry into a market where electricity demand rose by nearly 75% between 2013 and 2023.
In South Africa, the company is working with chemicals and energy firm Sasol to source close to 700MW of renewable electricity for the Secunda site, described as the world’s largest oxygen production facility.
