Spanish equipment business Ampo Poyam Valves has won a contract to supply around 15,000 valves to support the first five liquefied natural gas (LNG) trains at NextDecade’s Rio Grande LNG project.
Under development at the Port of Brownsville, Texas, Rio Grande LNG is set to be one of the largest LNG export terminals, with a liquefaction capacity of around 48 million tonnes per annum (mtpa).
Ampo Poyam Valves will supply a range of technologies to support the site, including cryogenic ball, gate, global and check values, and non-cryogenic ball, gate, global, and check valves up to 16” and 1,500lbs.
Most valves for Trains 1, 2, and 3 have already been delivered. The first valves for Train 4 are expected to be delivered by mid-July 2026, and those for Train 5 in Q1 2027.
First LNG production is targeted at Rio Grande LNG for the first half of 2027, with operational testing expected later this year.
NextDecade has plans in place for Trains 6, 7, and 8, saying that they could have a total potential LNG production capacity of approximately 18mtpa.
