Arabian Qudra, a subsidiary of Abunayyan Holding, has announced an agreement to develop Saudi Arabia’s first floating solar power plant in partnership with the Saudi Water Authority. The agreement was signed during the Innovation Driven Water Sustainability Conference, highlighting the Kingdom’s increasing focus on clean energy, sustainability, and innovation in the water sector.
According to Arabian Qudra, the floating solar project marks an important milestone in Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy journey. Floating solar power plants are installed on water surfaces such as reservoirs and offer several advantages. These include lower land requirements, better performance of solar panels due to cooling from water, and reduced water evaporation. The project reflects the company’s long-term commitment to solar innovation and sustainable development in the region.
The Saudi Water Authority, which plays a central role in regulating and developing the Kingdom’s water sector, signed multiple cooperation agreements during the three-day conference. These agreements aim to strengthen water security, improve efficiency, and encourage the use of advanced technologies across water infrastructure.
One of the key agreements was a research cooperation partnership between the Saudi Water Authority and Saudi Yokogawa. This collaboration focuses on using advanced artificial intelligence technologies to detect water leaks at an early stage. The goal is to improve the operational efficiency of water stations and networks, reduce losses, and support better management of water resources.
Arabian Qudra highlighted its strong position as a solar engineering, procurement, and construction company in the region. The company has delivered major solar projects across Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, and Sudan. With complete in-house capabilities, Arabian Qudra is able to provide end-to-end solar photovoltaic solutions, from design and engineering to construction and commissioning, across the Middle East and North Africa.
In addition to the floating solar agreement, the Saudi Water Authority formalised a cooperation agreement with the Water Management Alliance. This partnership is aimed at enhancing water security, promoting innovation, and building technical skills for sustainable water resource management. Another agreement was signed with BW Water to strengthen cooperation in research, training, and capability development within the water sector.
These agreements demonstrate a coordinated effort to link renewable energy development with improvements in water management. By combining solar power solutions with advanced digital tools and research partnerships, Saudi Arabia is working towards more efficient and climate-resilient infrastructure.
