Industrial gas supplier BOC New Zealand, a Linde subsidiary, will build a “multimillion-dollar” air separation unit (ASU) at its existing production site in Sockburn, Christchurch.
The ASU has an expected daily production capacity of up to 30 tonnes of liquid oxygen (LOX) and liquid nitrogen (LIN) combined.
Construction will begin in 2026, in partnership with Linde Engineering, with operations scheduled for 2027.
The plant’s South Island location will allow BOC to leverage preexisting storage, redistribution, and logistics infrastructure, including its bulk, cryogenic, and cylinder filling operations.
Cory Spence, Director of Linde New Zealand and Pacific Islands, said the plant will secure a supply of essential industrial gases used in healthcare, food production, and industrial applications in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
“It also strengthens our capability to support emerging high-tech and aerospace industries in the region with locally produced high-purity gases critical for advanced manufacturing and launch capability,” he added.
The new ASU will also take off pressure from BOC’s Glenbrook ASU facility, on the North Island, which currently produces most of New Zealand’s medical oxygen supply.
