Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has partnered with Volks Energie, a leader in energy storage, HVAC, and solar energy solutions, to set up solar power plants using LFP-based (Lithium Iron Phosphate) Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This innovative project, a first of its kind, will be implemented across 14 key locations in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This initiative marks BPCL’s first use of advanced LFP batteries in an oil and gas pipeline project, signifying a major step in India’s journey toward sustainable energy solutions. Volks Energie will install a total battery capacity of 1.6 MWh, while EIL will manage the project as the project management consultant.

Piyush Goyal, CEO at Volks Energie, said, “We are honoured to partner with BPCL to implement this pioneering project and contribute to India’s move towards sustainability and solar energy. Our proven track record in deploying solar solutions with pipeline projects using Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries positions us uniquely to implement the first-of-its-kind LFP-based system. It’s a significant technical advancement and we look forward to being India’s trusted partners in sustainability and clean energy solutions.”

Volks Energie’s deployment of LFP batteries marks a significant milestone, especially as this is the first time these batteries are being used in such an intensive and sensitive oil and gas pipeline project. LFP batteries are known for their longer lifespan, higher energy density, and enhanced safety compared to traditional batteries, making them an ideal choice for critical applications.

To ensure the highest safety standards, Volks Energie has equipped the batteries with advanced features like an automatic fire suppression system, protecting sensitive equipment at the stations. This project aligns with India’s increasing emphasis on sustainability and clean energy. Its successful implementation is expected to set the stage for widespread adoption of LFP-based solar power systems across the country.
